I love the long obverse legends on this series. I realize it's a matter of personal taste, but I find the smoothing and tooling to be within the limits of good conservation, but right at the line you wouldn't want to cross! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, ro1974 => welcome!! (that is an absolutely outstanding coin!!) => great entrance, my new coin-friend (bravo!!)
Oh and sorry, I always love to pile-on to coin-threads ... hey, I also have a Trajan Sestertius (but sadly, my example is not quite as sweet as your gorgeous addition) ... congrats again => errr, I guess my example is actually a Dupondius (ummm, is that still legit?)
That is a nice obverse combined with a premium reverse. I do not see any inappropriate conservation. All ancients are cleaned so it is hard to say where to draw the line but this one seems well done. Steve brings up a good question. Is it appropriate for us to 'pile on' to threads with related coins? Should we limit piles to coins we have not shown before or for a long time or just use coins really pertinent to the subject of the OP? In this case the subjects were Trajan, sestertius and levels of smoothing. Would someone like to explain the reverse and why it is most appropriate for Trajan? Pile on as - the shields are Dacian style and would have been recognized by soldiers in the campaign. What other Dacian types of Trajan are there?
Nice information, there are a lot Dacia types http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php mabye did helps you
