I took in a 1899 black eagle I purchased about 15 or so years ago for $27.50 to my coin shop today to see how it had appreciated. I bought it originally as an investment. Imagine my surprise when my dealer offered me $105 for it. I instead asked him for a trade, and was able to trade it for a 1946 ms-60+ Iowa commem. Not a bad deal.
BQ...nice appreciation!!! Now you know why I am collecting Paper.LOL The future market is going to be just like coins...you need the right notes as well... Nice trade, wish you would have posted a pic of that note? Or did you? did I miss it?? If so link the thread to me.. Regards, RickieB
I would have like to seen it as well BQ but sounds like you're happy with the end result so congrats! Rickie B. is right about the currency although it does seem to have bigger lulls than coins at times. BTW Rickie you have been picking up some really nice stuff. The bulk of my stuff is pulled from circulation but what I did buy has gone up nicely. Mainly CU Funnybacks that I was able to pick up as low as $15 severaly years ago. I do have a CU Black Eagle and believe me I have a lot more than $100 into it.
$27.50 in 1992 equalled c.£20. $105 in 2007=c. £49. So you'vef done Ok, but I don't think anything worth £20 (or £50) is going to ever be a good investment. J.
If you can double your money on anything then it is a good investment, I would have realy liked to see a pic of it as well Good deal BQ :thumb:
Perhaps, perhaps not but don't overlook the fact that he had the pleasure of owning that note for 15 years. This is what makes collecting coins and currency so fun. You can enjoy the hobby for a variety of reasons and when you do sell you're generally not going to take a loss.
I was extremely happy to own it, but I've been moving away from paper as I get more into numismatic research.
That would have been nice to see. However, it sounds like you've found a replacement for it that you like just as well.
