All of these 1877 Trade Dollars are being offered raw on ebay. Just based on these pictures, what would your opinions be (no weights available) - my concerns given A. fingers on hand holding branch and rim B. denticals C. weak strike D. denticals E. denticals/rim F. denticals/rim G.rim H. denticals
I think you're spot on with your assessments. At least these give the buyer a fighting chance by showing the actual 'coin' they are selling. I bought a Trade dollar that had photos of a legitimate TD, and what I got was a butcher job of a fake. There is another thread about authenticating a TD. If you're looking to get one, you may want to read through it, but based on your post, I think you already have. These should all be reported as counterfeit, IMO.
Yeah, I'm not seeing any signs of casting, which is typically how these counterfeits are made. Just look like they've been harshly scrubbed/polished.
I obviously misinterpreted the intent of the original post. I didn't look closely at the coins, only the areas of his concern, and I agree that his stated areas of concern are justified. But in my defense (to a point) his areas of concern are typically where one looks to attempt to verify authenticity. But all the ones that he mentions the denticals, they look to me to be fairly consistent with copies. I see candy corn in B, G, and H. And I see inconsistencies in E & F. Just sayin'...
