    I have a (Trade Dollar of yr 1797) weighing 420Grains

    wntd to know more abt it.

    for a good site on trade dollars. go to tradedollarnut.com.......if you are correct about the date..it is a fake.

    Greetings, just to mix things (wording) up a little try this. All known Trade Dollars fall between the years 1873 and 1885, maybe yours is an undiscovered prototype specimen... :D Yes, it's fake. :D

    I sure hope you didn't pay more than a buck or two, including S/H, because you have a common, well known product of one of the Chinese fantasy/replica/counterfeit factories.

    If you weigh it, you will find that it is considerably lighter than the correct 420 grain weight which is specified on the reverse, and it is absolutely not .900 coin silver! If it is the more plentiful cast version, it will have unnaturally wide rims in addition to the soapy color and bubbly surface. Those features are absent from the less common milled version. :(

    BTW the reason everyone is so sure it's a fake is that it's dated 76 years before the earliest genuine minting. :rolleyes:
