I always will and have looked things up n study before I start asking for help, so I can.answer and know as.much as I possibility can about that particular topic. That said, I can not find little to anything about this trade dollar. Trade dollar states, obverse: in god we trust, and the year. Reverse: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 420 grains. 900 fine, TRADE DOLLAR.....What is a yrade dollar and what would something like this b worth? Or is it at all worth anything at all
Why's that? I did read something about that, lots of fakes were made. But how coua guy look and be able to know for sure it is or isnt fake? And if it's not, what is the value of the "real" trade dollar?
This is a fake. 1879 is a Proof Only date, so it is exceptionally rare. Unfortunately, this is one of the Chinese fakes that are being imported by the container full. It is not silver, and may even stick to a magnet. The details are wrong, and the 1879-1885s are quite rare and only show up in unworn condition.
As stated, this one is definitely a fake. Some of the fakes are pretty well done and hard to identify, this one is easy to spot.
Yes, that's a fake for certain. Lack of detail, mushy lettering and devices, and surface color all point to it being a counterfeit. The value of a real Trade Dollar depends on the date and condition.
I'm glad I wasn't the first to reply because it looks fake to me. I own Trade Dollars. And this one just looked wrong. The eagle is all mushy and no detail - actually looks like a chicken with an eagles head, etc etc. If you compare it to this ==> https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/dollars/trade/ Don't just look at it overall, but inspect and compare small sections of the coin. It's the details that count.
I'm not sure why no one else has mentioned it, but the ribbon Lady Liberty is holding should say LIBERTY, not UBEMY. Her hand above the ribbon is also wrong; it should be longer and not so stubby. So if the coin was real, then someone altered it, but I don't think so. As someone mentioned already, the 1879 trade dollar was only minted as a proof.
