Last time they(PCGS) spalshed something on a 2006 silver reverse proof. I don't know what they did to it, but the splashes are no longer on it. This time I got a 1938D/D buffalo nickel back. It had perfect golden toning all the way around it, exactly the same on both sides. Now the exact same TPG screws it up on the reverse, plus adds a blemish to the coin. They seem to have messed up the toning, especially on the buffalos head and it proceeds to its back. The toning is no longer there. Also, there is now a mark under the buffalos mouth/beard area that wasn't there before. I took the best picture I could right now, I'll try and get a better one on Thursday. Now what burns me up about this more than anything is they graded it an MS66, but to me it could have graded a 67 on another day. Absolutely perfect coin. Another question I have is when we're these blemishes added to this coin, before or after it was graded? Now I've had this coin back for over a month. I noticed the problems the day I got it back. What would you do? Its been burning me up every time I look at it. Picture: http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s61/NICK_66_07/DSC01551.jpg
Nick66: too bad you don't have a photo from before you sent it in to PCGS. Then you may have an argument with them that they damaged, or what ever, the coin.
PCGS is very stingy with MS67 grades... If you beleive it to be MS67, or has a shot at MS67 I would confirm this with a local dealer who has the chance to examine the coin in person and give you a second opinion. If he agrees, crack out and re-submit... Its about all you can do... Sorry and best of luck to ya..
PCGS almost NEVER give MS67 to overdates anyway (because on overdate dies the strike is just too poor). Anyway, whether it is 66 or 67 is just opinion, so crack it and send it again if you really think it deserves it.
