total novice:2000 american eagle 50% gold on one side and 50% silver on the other

    hi found this coin in my late fathers collection, i have no other infomation apart from the thread description and the picture of the gold side..any infomation much appreciated.

    Welcome to CoinTalk, Andy.

    Your gold bullion coin (American Gold Eagle) is .9167 gold (22 karat). It does have a bit of silver in it as well as copper. I'm not sure where you got the idea one side is 50% gold and the other side is 50% silver. We don't make coins like that in the US.

    It's the aftermarket holder Hobo. On one side of it the gold coin is visible, on the other side the silver coin.
