Hello, I am helping to dispose of an estate that contained a large (at least to me) coin collection. I do not know much about coins yet...... but I am beginning to see how one can catch the bug after spending time with these and reading the various web sites. Being new to the forum, I wanted to know if it would be acceptable to post groups of coins and ask the approximate value. Or if perhaps the group could point me in a direction of other good resources. To be frank I don't think that most of the bulk of the coins are worth much.... but then again, like I said I am a newbie that knows little to nothing. Thanks for your help and input. Wooster
I would get a Red Book at a book store near you (or a coin store) and look through it...if there is a coin store near where you live you might be able to sell it all at one time to the dealer... Speedy
Howdy Wooster - Welcome to the Forum !! I would start with the Red Book - for less than $10 it will save you a lot of time and effort. By all means feel free to post pics and any questions you like. But I'm afraid that posting pics of groups of coins won't do much good. In order to be of any help to you we need to be see large, clear pics for both sides of each individual coin.
www.pcgs.com also has a free website for giving you a good idea of a coins value. You need to have an idea of the coins grade though. Also keep in mind that you most likely won't get the given value when selling the coin. I think they may even have some general coin grading guidelines somewhere on the site too.
Rcmartin--PCGS's price guide is well known for high prices that are no where near the right price. If you try to sell by PCGS's guide you won't be selling much at all... Speedy
Yeah, I know. I have always figured around half of what they say as a general rule with some exceptions. Still it is a reference that people use. The case of the 1986 PCGS coin I posted about is an exception I think. PCGS lists it at $40 & I have seen them go much higher. Ebay is pretty unpredictable though. You get two people wanting the same coin and the price can soar.
Thanks for the input Thanks for the info guys. I guess my next step is to start scanning some coins and posting them....... and a lot of research. Tickety boo, Wooster
