Why do the flames in the torch look different?

Are they both the same year????

It is because of a design change. As asked what year are they?

You find the year on the front, it should start with 19...

You should always post a pic of front and back of coin, when asking for help you will find you will get better results. IMO

    @Christina Miller

Why is it necessary to post images of both sides in this particular instance? I can understand if an error or damage could affect both sides, but I don't see the relevance in this case.

    You truly don't? I think I do. They're accounting for Occam's Razor.

Well Chris the only reason I stated that was since I have been with CT most of the time from my understanding most of the experts always want to see the obverse and reverse of the coin.

When asking about any errors what so ever, if I am mistaken then my apologies.

I'm going to state clearly what others have only hinted at:

The details of U.S. coins change from time to time quite intentionally. They are NOT constant, at the level of detail people frequently ask about. These things are often called "rehubbing" or a "rehub job". Without seeing the obverses and knowing the dates involved, we can't eliminate a rehub as the source of that which is being compared.

If you have more time, and more magnification, on your hands than is normal, check out the acorns on the reverses of recent year dimes, for example. It runs from "Wow, awesome acorns" all the way to "Are those really acorns?" And it's NOT due to wear, they were ALWAYS that way.

You don't need to apologize, Dave. This issue has been raised before. Unfortunately, one of the biggest culprits is the variety collector @Rick Stachowski . No offense, Rick, but you are always asking for images of both sides, and I'm guessing that it is for no other reason than to check for some minor variety even though it has nothing to do with the OP's original question. I think you should explain your intent, Rick, so that you don't mislead others like Dave.

You have the wrong member Chris .
I never asks for full shots of any coins for doing Varieties .

I think your looking for a Error Guy and only one reason for full shots.
Error Guys are looking for MAD ...

    One last thing Chris .
I have to clear the air with your fake news .

Here's 200 pages of my post and will will not find one with me asking for full shot images to do Varieties .

Please accept my apology, Rick. I should have double-checked my sources against my memory.

Chris I am glad you leave the matte proof cent checkers out, we ask for 3 sides :) including a photo of the edge of course. But yes, in this case the date side would help in considering a design change which would be a normal mint activity. Jim

When was the last time an MPL was (really!) found in a roll?

    In this instance the 69 70 70D have a reverse of 68. RDV-002.
This design change is mainly attributed by the torch.

Philosophical question: If I put together a roll of coins, and I become so senile I forgot I did, which should be about next Wednesday, is it still a CRH find if I later mindlessly find something?

Or does CRH always need to consist of at least two people?
