I have a favor to ask. My financial back is against the wall and I'm going to have to take my rolls of pennies, nickels and dimes to the bank and cash them in. I have never bothered to sort them - I just took out old ones or really choice ones and set them apart. So I've got dozens of rolls of mixed dates. I've never looked for errors or variations on any of them. Now for the favor. If you could list the top FIVE dates/mint marks that have the highest likelihood of having an error or variety, what would those dates be? I'm not talking about the fabulous $1000 errors, but rather ones that you are MOST likely to find that would be worth keeping. If you could give any input for pennies or nickels or dimes, I would greatly appreciate it. If I have some kind of short list, then I could at least go through them quickly and just pull out those dates. Thanks in advance!
Well im no coin expert but i think error coins can be found in almost any year. the way i do it is just scan threw all the coins with a magnifying glass, and any errors that are noticiable, take them out. but other then that heres at least the penny list you asked for.. i know u wanted 5 but, theres way to many to reduce to 5. so heres the penny list i found .. Assuming we're not talking about wheat cents (since you're taking them to the bank), I would say: 1) 1972 doubled die obverse (there are 8 different doubled dies so chances are decent to find one of them) 2) 2000 wide AM reverse (fairly large number made) 3) 1999 wide AM reverse (not many made but easily overlooked unless you know what to look for, and worth $50-100 circulated) 4) 1998 wide AM reverse (in between the two above) 5) 1995 doubled die obverse (many were made, even though awareness is high) For dimes, all I can say is (due to lack of knowledge) 1) 1982 no mint mark 2) 1996-W mint mark I have no idea for nickels.

Very interesting. I am going to have to keep my eyes peeled when looking through ordinary change. I know about the wisconsin quarter error, any other statehood quarters with common errors? How many of you have found any of the above errors?
