I'm guessing you're still trying to fill that hole in your Swiss Confederation set @QuintupleSovereign. However, these are my top 5 world coins that I'm currently looking for. 1. 1914 Japan 1 Yen 2. 1934-35 Melbourne Centenary Florin 3. 1934-39 Cuba "ABC" Peso 4. 1821 Great Britain Shilling 5. 1936 Switzerland 5 Francs Armament Fund
2021 has the potential to be a slow numismatic year for me. At least as far as purchases go. We will be moving at some point so we are trying to financially prepare ourselves for the higher bills that will be involved. I could see this being the year to work on my photography skills and doing a lot of research. That said I am always on the lookout for: 1) Mining Thalers from Brunswich-Wolfenbuttel 2) Multiple Thalers that I can afford 3) Anything engraved by Oexlein that I can add 4) Wildman types that I don't currently own 5) Anything else shiny that catches my eye and makes me lose focus on my collecting goals. It happens all the time so why not plan on it.
My list is far too long, most of which are way beyond my price range so the following are a few that may be possible:- 1. 1807A Napoleon 10 centimes - this is going to be a real challenge and I may have to sell quite a few things. 2. Any missing/upgrades for die numbers for Victorian sixpences, particularly 1867-1870 - at least EF so should be affordable (I have many below VF but couldn't bring myself to complete the set in low grade). 3. 1893 Jubilee Head Sixpence - hopefully in VF as any grade above this the price will be astronomical 4. 1812 or 1813 Napoleon 5 Francs from the Utretch mint - EF may be just affordable. I currently have nothing from this mint so any denomination would be fine (also missing Geneva and Genoa) 5. A Spanish Ferdinand VII 4 reales in high grade (probably 1811 from Valencia as it is a hoard coin and I missed out on several this year), as I have examples for the 1/2, 1, 2 and 8 reales I may actually complete a set in 2021.
"Knowing" what you want might lead you to spend more than initialy wanted, since "you have to have it because it's on the list" I usually rather jump on opportunities when they show up, hence I don't have any particular wish list to say so Q
I will be looking for a Roman denarius for emperor Pertinax who ruled for a few months in early 193 AD. There are a few around, but I am looking for something better.
I am a lot like you in my coin collecting I have list of wants/ but I usually deviate from it/ since most will go much higher then I wish to spend. Auctions are unpredictable/ a rather common Philip II AV Stater will go for crazy prices like 18K+/ then a super rare Mint state/ Merovingian AV Triens (unique) from Theudebert II sells for only 3K/ even more amazing a AV Triens from Theudebert I 25 known/ most in museums/ a VF specimen realized 60K in 2009 Auction.
1908-C sovereign Any Premium Hand selected Bank of Canada $5 gold piece in original package (under 200 total) A Nice William and Mary Crown an upgrade for my 1875-S Twenty Cent piece Some of the "better" type coins for my San Francisco type set ok lets say a Seated Liberty Quarter with Arrows
What's the current price point on the crown? I remember browsing years ago and getting a bit scared of some of the asking prices I saw on Ebay!
Trying to find a Sicilian 1735 1 Tari coin that I don't have. They are a small (2.16 grams) silver coin that was minted in Palermo under King Charles III
