Hi to all, first post, first visit, and already wondering if I am doing this correctly. Been at this 'coin thing" a little over two weeks now. ( wow huh?) .... Enjoy it for sure. Sorta addictive. (Hope I am not breaking any rules here); Went threw a two gallon cookie jar and grew buggy eyed but am sure everyone does at first. Making this sorta long huh, sorry. Took the "change" gathered from the cookie jar and started my leap of faith as I decided to call it. Went to 5 different banks and asked for half dollars, which incorporated about 25 to 30 miles. Goodness, found a great haul ..... 2 ... not rolls but coins. That rather let the air out of my balloon; felt reluctant to hit the 6th. I did, now do not know if I was just lucky or what. Asked for half dollars, the wonderfully nice gal said yes, I have 12$ worth. Big smile on my part. I'll take them. Would you like more? Sure. Let me check the vault. Gone maybe a minute, came back with, "We have 680$ worth".... gulp. I'll take 300$ (almost my entire bank roll). Keeping fingers crossed, came home; started to pull them apart. Did the looking for the gray line to each. Not a one, BUT, did find 5 complete rolls of 94 p BU ... 1 complete roll of 2001 d BU .... 1 complete roll of 2002 d BU and 1 complete roll of 2010 p BU. Not put together, just pored out of the wrapper as a complete roll. So now what to do?? Don't know if they are worth much, what to do with them, if I keep them, then that's $80 of my bank roll tied up???? Would greatly appreciate a little input here. All the rest of the rolls where mixed from the 70's threw to mid 2000's some shinny some not much. So help plz.
What I'd do would be to keep the best example out of each roll and dump the rest. Also I'd recommend getting some coin albums to keep them in. Get a few months sets to have an idea of what uncirculated coins should look like too.
Good idea Thank you I will do that. Excuse my ignorance here for I am just so very new to all this, but how do I go about telling one BU from another? There are no scratches, dings, mares, that I can see on any of the coins within those BU rolls not front, back or edges. I emptied them out on a cotton cloth, and wore cotton gloves when I first took them from the roll to my hand. Then one by one placed them on the cloth for a look see. pretty and quite mirror like. Once again please excuse my ignorance here.
