I was browsing the net looking for coin shops and came across this coin shop that had an 1892 O Barber quarter in a PCGS slab. It looks worn. The pics aren't that great, but even still. Fake slab? http://www.lccoins.com/1892-o-barber-quarter-ms64-pcgs.html
The images are terrible, but the coin also has a True View image online and it matches the coin in the images. This is a case of a very dark, unattractively toned (in my opinion) coin being shown with images that were acquired using lighting that flattened everything out.
I would say terrible coin for the price. Those spots over the stars are really distracting and personally I would look for a better coin for that price and grade. The toning isnt bad on this one, but it is a little dark and not as attractive as I would like for an MS-64 and $750. For coins like this I would be searching on Heritage, better coins, better selection, and alot of times better prices.
Ok, thanks for that trey. I am in the process of researching the barber series and comparing prices. I guess I am way off on the pricing too, if one like this could be had for less. I appreciate the tip. I haven't used Heritage yet, but have visited the site. When it comes to a key date I want to get the best coin for the best price, in my price range anyways.
wcoins, I wouldn't buy that one because of the spot on the reverse at 11'ish, the spot on the eagles neck, small one on the shield and another at 3:30. For me, If I'm going to buy a white coin, I don't want any "carbon" spots. I know they are not carbon in a chemical sense, it's just what people refer to them as.
A dealer I know has this PCGS MS-64 1892 on his web site for $600.00. It is a very attractive coin and in my opinion a good value. PM me if you want to know where it is.
