Greysheet bid on an MS63 is $110. Lincolns aren't going cheap these days.

closed at $56 something. Now I'm in the process of being out bid on a 1916 "GEM UNC". Watch out for people with piles of money.

Some links REALLY would be nice. I have no intention of bidding but seeing how GEM these are may explain a few things.

Glad that you lost them Andy.

Neither looks unc to me (especially the 16) and in NO WAY gem.

I can really see wear on the kernels of the wheat on the 16.
The 17-D has SEVERAL carbon (or whatever) spots.

Seller also has a 10% restocking fee. He doesn't want them back if you're not happy.

17-D bid in AU is $35. In MS60 it's $55. A far cry from MS63 and it goes up from there. Like I said. Glad you didn't win.

I agree with Clembo, I'm also glad that you didnt win them. They are in no way what the seller states they are. The 1916 is nowhere near GEM, neither is the 1917-D that he calls a "key date"....lol.

I agree with Clembo about both showing some wear -- although, it would be best to see them in hand. Also, the color on both needs to be looked at closer. The 16 looks funny dark, imo.

Look for the demand to increase along with (naturally) the prices. Dont get anxious with buying up every old Lincoln cent that you can find. Mainly key and semi key dates will be affected, especially the 1909s. (1909,1909vdb,1909-S and 1909-S vdb). With the upcoming anniversary look for these prices to go up.

I believe the market is heading north for high end wheats and VF or higher keys. Over the last year, I have switched out many of my silver coins for the wheats. I'm worried some of these will be out of my reach in a year or two.

    Who knows?

Edit: Holy cow...Indianhead is a little quicker on the keyboard tonight!
