Is this artificial toning? How does a coin from 2005 get like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-D-JEFFERSO...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item3efec6ffcb
Thats a bad AT. But nickels that new, and newer can and will tone naturally. I have some 05's that have toned a nice rainbow on their own, but I suspect it's the cheap Harris album they reside in that did it. Guy~
Description of the "how" does not lead to good results, just more and more of nuclear nickels on ebay.its best to look at it an know what it is, not the how.
"Yes" and "the application of heat", respectively. Don't believe me? Take a few brand new nickels and put them in the oven at various temperatures and for various times, and report back what you find.
If you like toned nickels check out 60 - 64 proofs http://www.cointalk.com/t100480/#post850675 not the best pictures I took but will show you an example. Be careful when buying toned nickels on ebay, watch what the seller says because sometimes they will state how it's toned and make sure they state what you see is exactly what you get.
Skillet toning...the seller gives it away in the auction. A Marvelous addition to any Toned Collection An Incredible work of Art "work of art" meaning someone made this coin...in or on the stove.
