Last week I got this lot that looked like "gorgeous toned coins" on the flea bay. Paid very little for the entire Kennedy lot ( $80 for 14 coins) , but a picture is definitely worth a thousand words. They are lightly toned--a teeny bit of rainbow, but basically are pretty nice BU coins. So win some, lose some. Gbroke, you were best off to pass on them--no point in photographing them individually. The overall impression is some BU Kennedys with a teeny bit of tone : This was how they looked on E-bay:
Throw them in manila envelopes for a decade if you want toned examples. Not difficult. Btw, nice enough looking coins, but those price stickers....ouch.
I see a little bit of toning on a few. They look nice, probably a few 65's or 66's in the bunch. Nice snag!
I only paid 80 bucks for the lot, so it was okay. Some very nice BUs, so I am keeping it, but definitely NOT as pictured. Some minimal rainbow toning.
Kind of the danger when buying something based on color. I find even more troublesome to evaluate is toned proofs. I have seen some gorgeous photos only for them to look drab in hand. I thank the board here for pointing this out to me, as I was "in love" with a coin once, and would have been very disappointed in hand I believe. Btw welcome back Travis. Its been a while.
Awww bummer Mdude. The 2001-d and 1995 P look tasty though. Good to know though. Now I can better judge his other items now that I see those.
Oh, I could easily resell the lot for more, as there are some very nice BUs in them. I will just keep them in the closet, and let them tone on their own.
That sucks man! I think grboke must buy up all the good ones before anyone else can even view the auctions, let alone hit "bid".
