Ok so I have gotten 2 toned coins in the past few days ( mercury dime from the local coin shop for 3 bucks and the penny CRHing. ) Is there anyways for me to clean this penny and keep the toning? I mean it's probably only worth 5-10 cents. I would keep it in my personal collection. Is there anyways I can make it all shiny and keep this rainbow toning? Note: I included the mercury dime as an example.

If it was silver I'd say acetone (pure) but copper reacts with just about anything . Maybe xylene but try it on some worthless cents and take proper safety precautions .

I don't think so. Either you leave the coins the way they are or you try to clean them with something and take a big chance you will make them look much worse. Just hang onto to them.

There are only 2 things I would recommend trying - distilled water or xylene. Use anything else and you stand a very good chance, and with most things a certainty, that you will mess the coin up.

No distilled . As long as the impurities are out . Heck if you have the time and some copper tubing and a boiler you could make some , and then add some sugar and whatever you want and you're ready for a Saturday night .
