The depth of the punched date, you mean? For 1880-83, there usually is a difference between the 18 and 8x. It's the most pronounced in 1880. I'll take a closer look later.
Yes! I remember checking mine, but it has never been mentioned in other threads, here. I recall reading in the VAM "Bible" about the discrepancies that were caused by the 4-digit logotype when the Mint changed from 1879 to 188X.
They took the 7 off the hub in 1880, leaving a 18 that would be overpunched with a 4-digit date. Many 1880 dies were prepared by filling the 79 and redating as 1880. Some show evidence of that, an unknown number don't.
