I had a question regarding the value of a 2014 toned silver eagle. It was left in an open plastic bag in a closet, hence the rapid toning. I realize that it might be classified under AT even though it was unintentional.

Hopefully the image uploaded all right. Apologies for the slightly deficient obverse pic - it's a little blurry, and the blue toning up both edges is a bit more intense than the photo would suggest.

I have more similar toned eagles, albeit less impressive, that I would probably consider selling on fleabay if you all think they would fetch a good price. Can upload more pictures if necessary. Thanks for any input!

An open plastic bag caused that? What else was in the bag? I would pay no more than $18.00. Once it toned like that, it is nothing more than a bullion piece for me.

Imo doesn't add any value and may turn off a large number of buyers.

are you sure you didnt leave it in a potato, and accidentally put it in the oven?

Yeah, this is - unfortunately - not toning of a character which promotes interest among those who assign additional value to color. Frankly, as Amos mentioned, regardless of origin it looks cooked.

I agree, but that doesn't mean it can't find its way into a PCGS holder and sell for a couple hundred bucks. I've seen a few.

It was 100% unintentional--you'll have to take my word on that. But I definitely see how others would think it was artificially done. (likely would've thought so myself it I had seen the picture without any backstory.)

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I think it's a pretty coin. I'll probably keep it. Like Paul suggested, I might try to get it slabbed eventually, but I would think it would have a better chance in 10 years or so. There's quite a few expensive slabbed eagles with crazy toning on fleabay, but mostly they're from the '90s. That kind of toning in 2-3 years might be hard for the graders to swallow.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I personally like the toning on the obverse. The reverse, not so much (not "consistent" looking enough).

Hold on to it. It's still a "colorized" bullion piece.

That I'd imagine would fetch some premium on the bay, just talk it up a lot.

People would likely think AT because of the reverse and the fact that it's only 2 years old.

I would tend to agree. The coin is new, and looks like a coin that has been AT'd. I think serious coin collectors would avoid this coin completely.

    I know nothing about AT/NT
but why does it look like the Toning "peeled" off in areas on the Reverse ?
