One of my fav. Sellers has this up on eBay, but it is out of my price range. What do you think about this half?

personally I like the coin, but based upon the grade it will sell for much more than I think it is worrth. In the end I would pass.

I'm not the biggest fan of the crusty toning. With that said, I think it's a nice coin, but I don't think it's that special (and neither did NGC, considering it didn't get a star). The colors are nice, but look just a little dull. Imo, I've seen much, much nicer toned Franklins.

raider, I would love to see them. I am not trying to be snug here. I would really love to look at them. Can you post pictures or a link?

She is beautiful, but as you said, it will probably be way overpriced.

I never have been a fan of so called "toning" Its relatively new to my collecting knowledge but something about it has always put me off. I guess I dislike it cause its not exactly original.....like a classic car I like my coins to be all original without all the glits and glam.....as it came from the mint.

I've never saved any pics, so it's hard to find them. I know I've seen some posted by Kryptonitecomics on here or NGC that were awesome. Anyway, here's one that really came to mind: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=838319&STARTPAGE=3 -It's the reverse posted by CCC2010, there are some others posted in that thread, but I think that one is a monster.

Of course with toning, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone has different tastes.

Agreed. I think it's a beautiful coin...but probably not worth the price tag to me. But, I love the color.

What do I think ? I don't like it all is what I think. To me that blotchy/patchy Mint Set toning is anything but attractive. To me it takes away everything good about the coin.

This, to me, is much nicer toning.

I think the ebay listing is severely under priced. Heritage sold one for $747 and numismedia has it at over $1000. Good luck to the bidders.

JC, you can ask most on this forum that I am a lover of toned coins, and the reason is because I think the toning adds some character to the coin.

However, this one, not attractive to me at all. The crescent shaped rainbow across the top, looks like it might have been added prior to it being submitted and slabbed, i.e. heat treatment. The rest of the toning, though I have seen much worse, I've also seen superbly better.

2 hours until that auction closes, and although NGC/Numismedai lists that at $1040, I think $530 is way too much for that.

To me the Ebay coin looks too rough and choppy. I never have bid on coins on Ebay because most of their material is over-pimped, and over-hyped, when there are much better venues that do coins and only coins like professionals not like hucksters, like Teletrade and Heritage.

I agree. While I like the surfaces, I personally dislike the toning and feel it takes away from the coin. Too bad the packaging wasn't better and kept this coin white.

I like the red one Doug, but blue/green always does it for me (when the color is right, that it). This is one where I disagree with you, I appreciate the op's coin's look more. lol :)

Not sure what to think. When I look at the half my thoughts are constantly changing, especially when reading your responses. I am a fan of toned Franks. I did not fall in love with this toning though. The green right above the head looks tacky. The reverse looks a little more appealing though? I can deal with a choppy obverse if the reverse is smooth and out of this world. For some reason I do like the rusty looking color on the face on this one. Especially Franklin's eye. The one thing that dissapoints me about this coin is that it is not an MS-66. It would be a nice buy in the 150-225 range. 700 realized price is a huge jump even if half of the greysheet value. Enjoyed the posts.

Doug that half looks rad. Love it. The kind I can't stand are the proofs that look like somebody painted them with shinny nailpolish. The glossy hazy look no way. I know everyone is different but I like the Frankies that Julian/Krypto/ and John Strategies sells.

Bah, these guys are mean, I personally think it's a beautiful coin. Collect what YOU like! :D

Tell me honestly guys, if you came to my house and I pulled out a complete set like this one....you wouldn't enjoy looking at them? You'd say "yuck, I hate that toning, put those things away"?

I usually like toning but I'm not a fan of that coin. If it was just the revers that was toned I would like it more.

the coin in the OP is close to being pitted or it has started to. it's not to my taste.
