So I have this 1882-P morgan Silver dollar. The toning of it doesn’t appear to be like the hundreds I searched that looks like it. The coin itself has really good qualities to it but the toning might have ruined it if it wasn’t natural or someone tried to torch it. Please help not like any other color I seen.
I can clearly see the cartwheel luster spokes - NICE LUSTER. I'll leave this to the morgan guys....but I don't like the color and apparent missing progressions. It's so smoothly "painted" over the service it reminds me of the AT eagles I've seen. GOOD LUCK!
The progression of colors does not look quite right. This isn't the normal monstrosity that one sees in heat/chemically toned AT coins, but it still has that look.
I dissent, I don't see anything that makes me think that coin is AT. I has some even golden toning with magenta highlights. It shows good elevation chromatics as the word LIBERTY is gold while the surrounding area is magenta. That is a strong indicator of NT. Color progressions for rainbow toning are repeating bands of yellow-magenta-cyan. This coin has golden toning with magenta so I'm confused at the comments that the color progression is not right. It isn't at all uncommon for a Morgan Dollar to have basically a monochromatic look with some highlights of the next color progression. When I have time, I will search my sold Morgans to see if I can find one similar to this.
You might be right. Color progression was incorrect for me to use. What I meant to question was the area under Liberty. It had the look of some of the heat toned coins that I have seen, but it may just be the lighting in the photo.
