I found this going through my grandfathers stuff and was wondering if it is a token or a coin and what it is called. I think it comes from Germany area.

Type "1790 coin" in Google Images, you`ll see plenty of results with coins pictures looking exactly like yours. By visiting appropriate sites further, you`ll find plenty if not all info needed. Judging by the first result, its a coin and its from Netherlands.

Something wrong with Krilon asking about it here? I mean after all, the name on the door outside is Coin Talk.

well it looks to be a NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES 1790-1794 V O C DUIT, but the part i'm not finding is the symbol above the V O C. all the ones i have seen online are stars or shields. the symbol on mine looks like a tower or chess piece.

Where have you noticed any hostility (or suggestion not to ask questions in here) in my reply to Krilon? I just tried to be helpful and point the member to a resource where he/she could find initial information by himself/herself, before other forum members join and give detailed answers, in case they are still required.

Closest I could find was Netherlands East Indies with the Crowned Utrecht Arms with Lion Supporters on the obverse (the second picture) but the one pictured has a shield between the stars.

I did not suggest you were hostile in the least, you brought that up.
