Today I got lucky. I knew it was going to be a slow day at work so I picked up 4 rolls of quarters from the gas station on my way in. By the end of the night I had found 8 State Quarters with a variety of different errors. There would have been a few more but I dont count minor lamination defects as an error.

    Here's a little list-

Kansas, with a die break spike on the Obv. right thru the forehead.

California, with a die break on the Obv. lower neck area down thru the "U"

Penn.,with 4 nice cuds filling the letters in on the Rev. on the state motto.

Maine, with a double die on the Obv. in the "In God We Trust" & on the mint mark.

Penn., with a die break on the Rev. by the botton left of the Sheild all the way to the rim.

Vermont, with a die break on the Rev. on the left side at 4pm.

Mass., with an odd looking planchet error on the Rev. I need to investigate this one a bit more.

Missouri, with a die break on the lower Obv.of the neck.

And the cream of the crop for today-

An 05 Minnesota with a HUGE cud on the Obv. covering John Flannagan's initials. check out the pic.

    Just wanted to share.:smile

Thanks , I just noticed that there is a smaller cud to the left on that pic. on the edge of the hair.

It was a good day ,but my eyes hurt from using those darn magnifiers :goof:

    Hi,
I just want to clarify a term that is being used. A CUD is a term used to describe a die break that involves the rim and that causes a portion of the die to break away. Coins struck by that die will have an area of raised metal filling in the area of the break and involving the rim.

Die breaks that leave small raised areas in the middle of the coin design, whether it be in the letters or around the details that do not involve the rim are called "die chips".

    This picture shows a CUD.
    Have Fun,
    Bill

Thanks Bill- I was using the term rather loosely wasn't I. Expertise and clarification is always appreciated.

gonna have to take a closer look at the picture when I get home....but it doesn't look like a die chip to me....looks like a clash or I don't know what....looks kinda like a letter or some other design shape...at least in the picture.

I have 5 of these that I found in UNC rolls that I got at a bank. Maybe they were all shipped to Ohio.
