    Today is Millard Fillmore Day

President Millard Fillmore was born on January 7, 1800.
He was president of the United States from 1850 to 1853.

The United States is issuing a commemorative dollar coin
this year in honor of Pres. Fillmore.

    From the US Mint website:

During Pres. Fillmore's term, California was admitted to the United States.

When will we have Chester Arthur Day?

Filimore was a victim of his times. Pierce or Buchanan didn't do any better. Johnson, Hayes, and Grant were also rather nondescript Presidents.

I have been researching one US President per month for a non-coin related interest.

One of the best online sources I've found is the Miller Center http://millercenter.org/ , no www) which takes a scholarly, non-political view of each President and the legacy left.

It's been fascinating, and I'm certainly reminded that the good old days weren't always good.
