Lots of mint luster left and has a small die crack on bottom of reverse.Should i get it graded and what would the grade be im thinking ms62+ thanks.
wow. I'm so sorry, but I only give it a EF-45 maybe AU50 at best. Here's where I checked . I just think it lacks the luster of a MS coin. https://coinauctionshelp.com/Barberdime_grading.html#.X3wbWSmSmDI
The cost of grading is about half the value of the coin. But the if you got the coin for free or melt value than do it.
Iv seen barber dimes completely covered in tarnish have a ms+ grade. coin has lots of mint luster you cant see in pictures plus i only got $12 in it.
I'd agree, this coin isn't going to get MS, while the details are there, wheat grains, corn kernels, hair, headband, and the luster really isn't the be all end all, the coin overall (especially the cheek) has a light circulation wear, but enough of it to exclude it from Mint state, It's nice, the details are there for it to be MS, but it's got way too many little scratches to be simple contact marks and still MS. in fact, I'm not entirely certain they won't tag it as MS details cleaned once they have it in hand and a bit of magnification to look at the cheek and field in front of the face and above and below One Dime on the reverse. it's got nothing to do with luster or tarnish really, if it has signs of wear beyond incidental contact or bag marks, it won't be mint state anymore. I'm just not seeing it making MS unless it gets details for the troubling areas I noted.
Sending it to ANACS or ICG would be a cheaper option than PCGS or NGC. Getting a coin to be graded doesn't need to just be about how much value can attained. It can also be a learning experience. Unless I were piggybacking on someone else's submission, I would not send a single coin since shipping fees are a significant portion of submission costs. I would wait until I have a handful of coins to be submitted (and try to take advantage of a promo).
