Hello all , let me start by saying I collect Jefferson Nickels and I recently won an auction from a well known seller from ebay . It's a complete uncirulated Jefferson nickel set , 35 coins spaning 1938 -1949 in a Capital Holder. The set has quite a few choice to gem coins including this 1942 d . When i decide to finally pick a third party grader and have some of my coins graded might this nickel be worth the price . Not sure if there about the steps as well . So that being said Opinions would be greatly appreciated as always. 20250616_155345.jpg 20250616_155645.jpg 20250616_155717.jpg

Looks GEM BU FS to me, which is to say MS65 5FS. The luster looks dynamite, and the coin is pretty clean but there are some small marks on the focal areas that should prevent a premium gem grade.

The problem with the 42-D is that it is pretty common in this grade and really needs to be MS67FS before the price jumps. In MS65FS it is only a $50 coin which will get eaten up by the submission costs.

Nice to see another Jefferson collector here, I am the owner of the Atlantic City Set of Jefferson Nickels on the NGC Registry, which is currently ranked 10th.
