Don't know what happened to my message, but, I bought this coin on ebay and think I should get it certified,
although it looks pretty good to me
I think there are starting to be real good fakes. I'd appreciate your opinion. Was asking %575 and accepted my offer of $450
    item number = 130418094431

    Thanks in advance

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

What's going on at 12 o'clock on the reverse?

There's a ding on the rim at 12:00, doesn't look suspicious to me.

I did the magnet test, passed, I did the ring test comparing to a peace dollar, passed,
I've examined every spot at high magnification comparing a real one on line and can't find a thing
that looks wrong. Am I just paranoid?

Doesn't much matter, with that rim ding it'll never slab. But you might get it in a genuine holder.

So that ding makes it non-gradable? That's interesting, I wouldn't think it was that significant. I'm
not all athat interested inthe grading, just in verifying its authenticity. If there's a way to be 95% sure on
my own I wouldn't bother, so am looking for opinions or tips that can get me there. TIA.

I agree, I think the ding at 12:00 is enough to get it in a genuine slab.

The only way there ever is to authenticate any coin is to have an expert examine it in hand.

To me it looks like a removed jewelery mount there at 12:00?

Just for the sake of curiosity I went and looked. That coin, even though it is a problem coin, would sell for approx $250-$300. You can base your decision on whether or not to submit it on that if you wish.

It looks like a great coin to put in a Dansco type set as is. Looks real but won't grade due to the ding at 12 on the reverse and 3 on the obverse. It might be worth having in a genuine slab if trying to sell but I would not spend the fees.
From the image, I would grade it XF-40 or 45 if not for the damage.

You were right in guessing it's for my Dansco type set, and I agree, I really like the look.
I'm not a dealer, just a part time collector that wants genuine coins at reasonable prices.

Doug nailed the value in his post above. It's tough trying to relate NGC and PCGS values to a coin with a problem. It is also tough to relate them to what they are actually selling for at that time. They can be high or low.

I like the coin. It's going to look great in your Album.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it. I'll probably put it in the album and leave it at that.
I was at the Northwest Coin show in Minneapolis last week and looked at the dollars there and this
price didn't seem out of line of what I could get there. I wish I would have offered less now, but
    hey, it's only money :) .

If you are going to sell it, I would slab it. If not, keep it as is.

A guy at a show next to me did a good business selling problem coins slabbed and raw. He discribed the problem and was honest about it. The people who buy that stuff are looking for something inexpensive to fill that hole in their album.

If anyone would sell me that coin for $250 let me know. I have been looking for a seated to go in my 7070 and can't find anything with a clear liberty under 500. Understand rim prob but I would put that coin in my workin man's type set.

All you need to do is watch on Heritage, quite few just like it have sold in that price range.
