It is interesting to me how they blow the value of this half to seemingly untold heights. It is neat that it was left as a tip, but a nationwide story? Wow. It seems like some people from this story have been seeing and believing the types of ads that @paddyman98 started a thread about.

These stories are all mostly fictional. It's sad and loads of misinformation. A lot of newbie collectors read them and now have hopes of becoming rich by believing these ridiculous stories :banghead:

I agree with Ed 100%. Otherwise perhaps some particulars or even a photo of the half would have been in the story.... A one of a kind JFK half? No I don't think so.

I agree with both Randy and Ed. They don’t name the town and they don’t show the coin. It’s just blog-tripe.

Any JFK mule or unicorn (as suggested by the article) would have been discovered by now, since 1964. Improbable.

Except for the metal composition variance in the ‘60s and early ‘70s, modern Kennedy halves have the same design characteristics as the 1964, excluding the Bicentennial year’s reverse. The Mint did not create any special JFK half dollar dies other than normal proof dies. The SMS sets were made in place of proofs. The Accented Hair variety is a 1964 Proof.

Anybody know anything else? Doubled Dies is a different issue, in this case.
