I have 4 tiny round gold coins marked California Gold 1850. They have what looks like a roman soldier on the front and a wreath and a bear on the back.

Are these worth anything at all? Is there any specific ways to list them in my auctions so people will know what they are?

They have no "value" written on them so I am not sure what to call them.

I know there are many types but do not want to describe them incorrectly.

If the coins you mention do not have a denomination listed, they are probably what is commonly referred to as tokens. They are similar in size to fractional coins minted by the private mints. They sell for about 50 cents each.

A referrence for you on genuine small gold from California can be found on pages 304 and 305 in the Official guide to United States Coins. (commonly known as the Red Book).
