I decided to go ahead with this purchase. I have been eye-balling it for some time. It's reverse's like this that catch my attention. Ti. Veturius. 137 BC. AR Denarius (3.75 gm, 18mm). Helmeted bust of Mars right; X and TI. VET behind / ROMA, youth kneeling between two soldiers, holding pig, upon which the soldiers are swearing an oath. Crawford 234/1; sydenham 527; BMCRR (Italy) 550; Veturia 1. Veturia gens
I expect nothing less from you. A wonderful piece, I wouldn't mind having. Interesting. Nice, and very old.
Thanks Anoob. Like I said, I've been watching several of these at auction over the past few months, but decided on this one from Vcoins and I was able to negotiate a great price along with a few other coins I will show later.
Can't wait! I will be showing more of my older coins, once I have a minute at my computer. I have been doing a fair amount of viewing and commenting using my iphone, and its starting to become a pain. I have to constantly retype stuff and makes it seem like I have the writing skills of a gifted 3rd grader.
What a great reverse on the coin. :thumb: As mentioned in your coin's description, it is similar to the Rome's first gold coin, which was minted during the Second Punic War (Not my coin ): Here is the description of the reverse for this older gold coin. I like the explanation of this reverse image: Good stuff, guy
Thanks everyone and particularly you Guy. I love the explanation you provided for the reverse. I read that a while ago when I was first looking at these coins, but I couldn't find it when I started this thread. "Good stuff Maynard" as my son's might say.
Another nice Republic coin. Damn, wish I could get one but any decent ones are too expensive for me right now.
You might be surprised. This particular coin did set me back a bit, but some of my other Republican coins were very reasonable ($35-$85). You just have to look and stay on top of the market.
I just bought 5 more coins in the past minute or so. Four are Republican and the other a Macrinius. Total bill was $250 or an average of $50 each. If I take out the Macrinius which cost $80, the Republicans would have averaged around $45. That may still be out of your budget, but Republican coins can be affordable.
=> we seem to have totally swapped personalities!! => you are totally out of control!! (I'm lovin' it!!)
You ain't just whistlin' Dixie. But this is it for a while. I just fell into a good deal on these last 5 coins. I just couldn't pass it up. BTW, it's good to see you're still around
HI Bing ... Yup, I've been around ... ummmm, but I must admit that I've been hangin' with the World Coin folk a bit lately => I've been pulling-out some of my old Newfie coins and/or Dominion of Canada schtuff (gettin' a bit retro!!) ... it always feels kinda good to switch gears a bit (to me anyway) => but don't worry your purdy lil' head => I ain't bailin' on the ancient gang!! (just stretchin' my legs) ...
