I have three Kennedy Half Dollar coins that I would like to share. 1990 D seems to be DDO, but it could be mild. However, the year and text are fatter than normal. Here's picture... Up close using Micro Camera... Bottom of Ear are doubled Next two coins has nearly similar sight, but first one is mild and second one is strong. Both of them are 1983 D. I called it, "Half Finish Doubled Die". Here's mild one... In God seems not being doubled die, but not double strike either. Number 3 have extra metal on bottom You can see chips between the loops. You can see extra metal half finish coat on it The rest of letter are normal. Here's strong half finish doubled die. Liberty, all of them have it and more In Gold is mess up, but number one has more metal on it We trust aren't clean doubled Number eight has mild chip in between loops and number 9 have extra metal Here's close up on number 9 All letter from Liberty has extra metal on top of letter Extra metal over the eyelid Thick ear like wrestler's ear during 1950's. Let me know what do you think of these coins?
I was reading an article about cherry picking and it said don't spend too much time on a coin looking for errors because of it's so slight that you need to point it out even using a loupe then it's not going to be of interest to anyone. I've come across a few 1982 pennies that look doubled on the God in "In God We Trust," but it is slight and not really worth keeping. I set them aside anyway.
1990-D MMD Machine Doubling, here how to a link that explains MMD http://www.doubleddie.com/144822.html If 1983-D was Gem Bu I would say" Spend $12.00+ send it to John Wexler or Ken Potter to have it checked out it maybe a new DDO??? " I have not seen a 83 with a doubled ear Most folks won't buy or have EF-AU clad half graded. :kewl:
Hello everyone, thank you for sharing your point of view. Jello: I will do that. I can send last two coins to John Wexler and find out what's their respond on this.
Not sure if that statement is true. Watched an auction on Teletrade last night for a 1964 D RPM-010 Kennedy half dollar in MS62 condition, it went for $60 plus juice. If anyone wants to see this RPM, you will need at least a 14X loupe if not a scope. Also, on eBay within the past month, I watched two auction for a 1967 DDR-001 (FS-801) Kennedy half dollars sell for over $500 each for coins graded MS65. I'm glad my dad took his loupe with him when we went to the coin shop to look over the "junk" 40% silver or he would never have found my 1967 DDR-001 for melt price which graded at PCGS MS65.
What did you find out about the coins? I am curious because I found one and was wondering whether to keep it.
