Hi All. Been working very hard at study in full steps on Jefferson nickels. Was curious if these three had what it takes. Thank you! Hopefully pics will translate well.

The flip doesn't help any definition.
I am a yes on the 57' unless there is any dings that cross a step. The others are to blurred by the plastic.

Thanks, Pickin and Grinin. From what I can see on the 1961, it looks like the column to the right of the steps looks thicker on that one. You think grading on the 57 would be worth the trouble there? Thanks for your input!

The flips hide to many defects, I couldn't tell ya one way or the other.
The 57 would have to be 65 or better to be worth the costs.
    @baseball Posted the PCGS promotion
any four coins with a president on them get 1 of them free.
You would have to decide if you think they are gem or not.

The first two look like proofs, in which case they are not worth a premium as FS nickels. The third coin looks like it might be about 4 1/2 steps, but I can't be sure because of the photo.

    1957: Yes
    1961: Need better photos
    1975-D: Need better photos

To be worth grading, the 1957 would need to be at least gem grade. I'm having trouble interpreting what I am seeing in your photos, specifically in the upper left obverse field. And luster is paramount with respect to gem grade Jeffersons. For comparison, here is a 1957 MS66 5FS.

1957 No, that little slash above the E kills it. Very close though.
1961 No, another break above the E.
    1975-D Not even close.

It's not worth the grading costs for these.

As far as value and collectability what is the impact of Full Steps?

I'd be interested to hear @Lehigh96 opinion on that mark,
I missed it the first time but don't think it's deep enough.
Sure would help to have better photos.

I know, it's close. The mark is not deep but it is there and the step shows through that mark.

Thank you all for your opinions. The 1957 has a background of a proof when I take it out to take a picture, so it sounds like it may be a non-issue then. Worth sending more pictures? Really appreciate it

It depends on the severity, if it is shallow, they might still grade the coin full steps. PCGS is much more lenient in this regard than NGC. Honestly, I would be more concerned about a small bridge appearing with better photos than that little mark being the disqualifying imperfection.

That all depends on the date/mm. For the coin in question, a 1957 Jefferson Nickel has an NGC Price Guide of $20/$140 in MS65/MS655FS and jumps to $85/$1650 in MS66/MS665FS, although that price for MS66 5FS is ridiculous. Recent auctions of PCGS examples for MS66 FS run between $600-$700.

Even taking a picture out of the flip with only camera magnifying makes me wonder. With a 5x loop it looks optimal. I see the spot you all do but can’t get the optimal look for everyone. Really appreciate everyone’s look. May take to my local guy and get another opinion. I think the other 61 is close but not quite and 1975 is out.
