Thoughts on this nickel

    hi all, was hoping to get thoughts on this nickel I found while roll hunting. It’s a 1988 D but I did not know if the extra metal at the bottom would be considered a mint error or just a damaged coin? Thanks in advance

    Looks like weld spray. When your welding sometimes hot metal can burn threw clothing and adhere to loose change.

    Welcome to CT!!

    Looks like the rim took a hit as well. Weld spray or whatever it may be, this definitely did not happen at the mint. I would spend it. ;)
