During the last series of roll searches, I came across this interesting 2006D Lincoln. Several notes to consider. The coin is slightly concave, yet where you would suspect some type of impact mark on the reverse there doesn't seem to be any (see picture). On the obverse there seems to be an imprint of the reverse of another Lincoln. The impression of the Lincoln Memorial does not line up with the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse of the coin. The details of the impression are quite detailed (see next picture)
Note the detail. The image is indeed a "negative" of the Lincoln Memorial. Note the details on the stairs, columns. So, what do you think and what are your theories on how this came to be?
Post mint. The pillars are indented. If it happened at the mint, they would look like the reverse of you coin
Vandalized outside the Mint. A coin was pressed into the obverse face, possibly after or concurrent with the warping of the coin.
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I just couldn't believe that enough pressure could be applied to two coins that could imprint one of them with such a detailed image. Back to searching....
Try it yourself, it's easy enough. Take 2 cents from your pocket, stack 'em on top of each other - hit the top one a good whack with a hammer. Then look at the bottom cent - you'll see.
Post mint. No doubt. I have seen coins used as washers, spacers etc. as I am sure most people have, all it takes to produce this is pressure.
