Thoughts on this Aureus?

    Hi everyone,

This Antoninus Pius Aureus was shown to me, and I was interested in working out a trade. I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts towards the authenticity and provenance of the coin? It was described as being from a private collection from London, and I was wondering if anyone had more info or perhaps recognized it from a former sale?

    Thanks in advance! 134691874_10222023936440654_7490351867597204353_n.jpg 134524193_10222023937840689_1240057539420953955_n.jpg 134702634_10222023939920741_558260900502103777_n.jpg 134558545_10222023942720811_1473662766055876270_n.jpg

Man, I’ve never seen such a pronounced chin like that. But I’m no expert when it comes to these coins. Someone smarter will come along soon.

The texture of this coin's surface is unlike any other aureus I've ever seen, even aurei in rough condition.

    - Who is the seller?
    - What is the asking price?
    - What is the weight?
    - What is the seller's policy on authenticity and returns?
    - Is there any actual provenance information?
    - Have you examined the coin in hand?

The seller is someone from an ancients coin Facebook group. Asking price was $2500, but I was working out a trade. Weight is 7.2 grams, 18mm. Haven’t had time to see it in hand, but authenticity should be guaranteed.

Unknown provenance (the provenance is merely where it was and whom with before yourself), questionable artistry, craters and you haven't seen it in hand (probably for good reason).
I would give that a hard pass.

I generally avoid commenting on authenticity posts but there are many red flags with that coin and the overall transaction. I'd stay far away.

Just noticed the negative feedbacks. Thanks for all the help, I’ll keep looking for my first aureus and pass on this one!

That looks like a fake to me. I would pass.
