Won this one for what I thought was a strong price but in hand the toning is much nicer than I imagined so I am really glad I adjusted my max bid up 3 times The fact that the holder did end up being the rare NGC 2.1 is icing on the cake fellow vintage holder weenie's Thoughts on the coins eye appeal and grade?.....no clue if this has any shot at upgrade but I think it's at least as advertised...MS66 quality. :kewl:
Shane, I should have mentioned on the NGC forum that if you ever give any thought to submitting this old slab for an upgrade, we will no longer be friends for the next 30 minutes. Chris
I have never submitted an old holder for upgrade and I never will....the coin looks just fine in it's current home Worse case scenario is potentially a CAC sticker but I haven't even decide on that yet.
Wow, that is a super nice Walker half, great tone and grade.. I would leave it in its home as well...It looks great against the white background...
You're taking me too seriously. I only said that for the benefit of some of the others. Your friend always, Um......um.......I've forgotten my name.
I have seen that date harder than some actually, and that coins beauty carries over any technical grade given. Besides, if you resubmit they will crack it out of that holder and still give it the same grade. The holder is worth something for sure. M
Holy smokes Shane, that's one beautiful walker. That is the first time I have seen an NGC "2.1" slab. What's the story on that?
According to Conder101 who literally wrote the book on vintage slabs...the 2.0's and the version 2.1's were only used breifly back in 1987. The versions's look idential and feature the white insert and gold NGC logo on the back but on the 2.0 version the raised log is stamped onto the back of the slab but in the 2.1 the gold logo is actually stamped onto the white insert inside the slab. Both slabs are rare but the 2.1's are considered the second rarest PCGS/NGC slab by most in the know with the Black NGC version 1.0 being the rarest and the PCGS doily coming just after the 2.1 in terms of rarity. Nobody knows how many still exist but it's an extremely small number which could be as low as a few hundred or less.
I'd love to have a Black Label in my collection some day, and I'm not referring to Johnnie Walker of Carling's. Chris
Why can't it be both? Hey Shane, Is this a piece we will see up for sale or something for your personal collection?
