    If you collect these, why?

Is there something special about this cent series to you?

IMO the IHC set for many collectors is a natural extension of the Lincoln cents set.
People finish or get close to finishing their Lincoln set and say, "What now?"
Having looked at Lincolns for quite a while, they surely have bumped up against some IHC's.
A quick look at the Red Book shows many of them affordable.
So they move into collecting them.

IMO that is one reason people collect IHC's.

Oh, and I don't collect them. I never made the jump that I just described.

I think IHCs are attractive coins, especially in the higher grades.

Yes - I collect them. Why cause I like them - I like the bronze better than the copper. It is a fun series to me. To me some of the browns and red browns are absolutely the best colors of any series of copper. I am not too fond of red, but do have a few old lincoln cents. If I get a chance I will post my newest one tonight, but first the newest Large cents.

I like the proof IHCs. One of the cheapest ways to get a early proof coin.

I like collecting them because I think its one of our best coin designs and as said before, its a fairly inexpensive set to put together.

IHC's are absolutely beautiful even more so in Higher Grades. Couple of newer ones in the past month or so. Got the 84 from AJ.

Freaky hit this nail on the head. Proof Indians are probably the best way to assemble a set of Proof type coins.....Most serious collectors can afford a set, they are within reach .

I graduated to high grade circ Indians after finishing my Lincolns....I have a great cpl mentors, and am taking it slow. But, I did buy the books before the coins, and am lucky to have experts in my region of the country that are willing to share the knowledge;)

I collect IHC because I really like the design. I like the design's of the coins right before most of the moderns best. A question to the people who do collect. What grade do you collect them in. The set I'm working on is a VF/XF set and it is turning out really nice. Just wondering what others go for.

I've always loved the IHC's and now that Ive had a complete set for a while I must up grade the AGs, GDs and Fs to something more palatable. I really do enjoy the MS Indian coins I have but a Proof or 2 would be real nice.

Well, I've ALWAYS liked the design!

And when I got older, and learned that the Indian was actually a symbol of the American continent, I thought that was very cool.

    Yes they are very special,

Yes they are very special, it's a coin that's got it all!

    A beautiful American classic.
    Instantly recognizable.
Both obverse and reverse are gorgeous.
Coin Production for 50 years thru some the most advanced growth period in this nation.
Obverse is stunning although not an American Indian face but european, still stunning, clean clear lines and simple.
It's on the one cent coin, a coin each and every person in this nation really used during and long after production.
The proofs are even more stunning.
The engraver was a artistic genius.
First branch mint one cent piece 1908-S.
    Increases in value every year.
Not hard to find at least in circulated grades.
Nice circulated pieces are always available and most are reasonable.
Many experts know and love this series.
    Some have beautiful toning.
Learn this series and you will love it - here's a hint for free - you cannot go wrong on buying problem free nice original copper nickel issues at VF-35 and above. Hold them 2 years and you will make some money.
Only drawback to the above -you may have to look at 100 or 1000 coins before you find one in a problem free VF-35 and above, these are not common plus by the time two years comes around you won't want to sell them.

I like them because there is so much more to them than filling in holes in a book. They cover a great period of American history: John Brown, Abe Lincoln, "Mark Twain", Geronimo, Teddy Roosevelt, John D. Rockefeller and a whole generation that grew up in this era of westward expansion, Civil War, Reconstruction, empires, and railroads, sweatshops and riots, booms and busts all handled these in their daily lives.

There are affordable Proofs of most years, neat varieties of all years, affordable Patterns, and really cool-looking coins.
