Thoughts on an 1889-CC Morgan?

I was called a "hater" when I questioned this 1889-CC example posted in a FB group I am in:


The reverse and mm location doesn't appear to match the known genuine VAMs and I posted this image of them for comparison:

The poster stated he has 20 years in the "coin business" and I am a hater; he then deleted his post.

I did reply I was surprised some one with 20 years experience would ask the group if a key date Morgan should be certified, and he didn't like that so much...

Just trying to learn, does this look genuine to the Morgan folks here?

I agree. Someone with supposedly 20 years in the business shouldn't have to ask if it should be certified.

 

Ya, I don't trust FB sellers when I see stuff like that and buy it now is a great deal, alot of scammers. Seen another 1889 cc the pictures appeared pl, asking what it's worth and thinking of selling it. The edge looked like new silver and some other red flags, as compared to pictures from ngc and I have very little knowledge on Morgan's, I see too many deals on there too good to be true, one guy selling 1000 2011 w silver eagles 25$ each. I won't buy off FB.

So definitely a fake? I've looked at a lot of Morgans, but not really into vams or counterfeit detection. First impression of the coin was pretty good....

 

Absolutely a fake. That coin raises alarms the minute one looks at it.

Wings too long. Mintmark too far right, and high. Lettering inconsistencies between reverse and obverse. Letters of “ E Pluribus Unum” in wrong place. Cap angle on obverse is slightly shifted. Need I go on?

 

It definitely has an off look. Especially the mintmark and grainy surface. I’m not saying absolutely fake. But very questionable

 

So, old fake? Recent Chinese? Have you had input from other sources, @Jack D. Young ?

It looks a lot like an AU 79CC capped die I found in a pawn shop years ago. Extremely hard to tell. We weighed it and it was spot on. At that time we didn't have online resources to say that it was counterfiet but something just looked off. I came back the next day with calipers. the diameter was slightly smaller and it was a tad bit thicker.
I told him it was a fake.
He argued his A-- off. I have been dealing with coins for years.

Those contemporary counterfeits were pretty good back then and fooled alot of folks.

Long story short he sent it off to ANACS.
Where they sent it back in a body bag.
He fessed up to me about 6 months down the road, said someone bought from him knowing it was a fake.
