    Ha! ha! No, it's okay to take photos of coins in or out of the flips as long as the glare of the lighting isn't an issue.

    If you want to keep the coins, then AirTites are a better (permanent) alternative. JP's Corner has them, too, and you can get them with or without the accent ring (foam outer ring).

    It needs to be out of any holder ( unless it is a sealed slab that would prevent it ) for photos as mentioned the glare, as well as whether scratches or lines are on the coin or plastic, and most cameras focus on the covering and not the coins surface , so it is out of focus. After taking the photos you can put it back into a holder. For a common coin , that you won't be removing from the protection can be any non PVC plastic material, even a plastic fip like it is in now. Airtite's are fine as long as you remember that they are not air tight.
