@Paddy54 I am having a hard time with this one, I feel that this is a weak strike or extremely over used dies, the split tail doesn't fit in with the xf grade. Au at worst to me. 55 usually has a more worn tail. Is that what the red book calls greasy luster?
Overlooking the minor obverse scratches, not sure about the large scratch on the reverse running diagonally from 9 o'clock. I would be around XF-45. Looks like someone tried to make it appear AU. I don't believe it is. I don't know what that white residue is underneath the buffalo and running down the front left leg. It looks unnatural. So that could be a concern.
I was thinking cleaned also do to the lack luster surfaces I'll stick with xf as I believe Au is a reach for this specimen.
A nice looking xf buffalo that unfortunately someone doctored to make it appear au. The die clash is a nice addition but only a collector of sorts would appreciate it.
I dont understand what you mean by this. Could you please elaborate? The coin in hand looks natural with great luster.
It's difficult to tell from your photos but the coin has been polished or more likely cleaned. I can't see any signs of original Mint luster, which on a coin that has this appearance, it should be clearly visible. Hope that clears it up fir you.
