I'm looking for thoughts and opinions on Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of U.S. Coins.

How valuable is it? Is it a worthwhile investment?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Its alright....I wish it had more photos...there are some mess-ups in it...I think you can get one for about $75 if you watch.

it is still the Standard Reference for a number of American Series, and has tons of information on many others. If you can find one for $75, it would likely be worth your money.

I am too old to start a coin book collection. This hobby is starting to remind me of those TV commercials on how to become a millionair by buying land with no money down. Now everyone is writting a book on coins. Soon there will be more books on coins than there are coins.

You must be a lot older than I am Carl.

If there's one thing I've learned in the last 73 years, it's "You're never too old to learn something new.":D

Hey Roy I am also well up there in age and agree with you 100% about never to old to learn. I'm just a little irritated with all the books lately on coins appearing. Remeber when there was basically only the Red or Blue Book? I agree that nowadays there is fantastic information out there on coins but there is also just a lot of books by someone that just wants to sell books. I remember when my wife was pregnant and started buying books written by some guy that was single, no kids but was an expert on raising them. I think many of the coin books lately are like that. I go to at least one or two coins shows a month and at one of them there is a guy with a whole table of books, magazines, pamphlets, etc on coins. I onced asked him if he read all of them and he just busted out laughing. Again, I agree your never to old to learn something.
