Hello, and I hope you had a great weekend! I just picked these up at the LCS, thought I'd share them and see what you think they'd grade (not that I particularly plan on sending them in, but it might be fun to see what you think. Plus, it's good practice for my camera work...) 2003 P Lincoln Cent This coin, in hand, is absolutely proof like. Of course, it was a bear to photograph...maybe sometime I'll see if I can capture the mirrored surfaces. (Such a shame with the spot in front of Abe's nose - otherwise, I don't see much wrong with this coin on either side.) I think you can sort of tell what the surfaces are like by some of the mirrored reflections on Abe himself. 2005 P Lincoln Cent Looks like a Mint Set coin (satin finish.) Has a die scratch on the upper right of the Memorial, and a tiny scratch under his bow tie, but otherwise...again, a beauty. Starting to tone on the lower obverse, so I'm thinking a RD designation would be out. Well, what do you think? What would they grade (if it was worth sending them in.) Did I do okay for $1 total?
The details on your coins look sharp. You can even easily see the VDB below the shoulder. I believe the Mint redid the master die not long ago. Plus your images are VERY well done.
Lincoln Cents without a mint mark have always been minted in Philly. There has never been a Lincoln Cent minted with a "P" mintmark. The only coins with "P" mint-marks were the War Nickels and the other clad coinage starting in 1980 (with the exception of the SBA dollar which included a "P" mintmark in 1979). Have you guys been sleeping for the past 35 years?
Nope, not sleeping. I just don't collect anything after 1964. Ergo I pay very little attention to clad material.
Well, the comment still stands. There has never been a cent minted since the beginning of US coinage with a "P" mint mark.
Well, the Mint stuck the "P" mint mark on all the other values during much of the clad era. I just assumed they did for the cents too. Like I said, I have VERY little interest in coins after '64.
