No comments as yet? I figured this would explode with many colorful jokes! Unfortunately I am not very funny, so I wont offer any. Butt (oh, wait, maybe that was a small joke), quite interesting. People will always find a way, but this guy has to fall into the dumb criminal category. He deposited his ill-gotten gains into his bank account? Damn. What an idiot!

For Sale: Gold from my great grandfather's estate.

After my great grandfather passed, it was discovered from documents kept with his will that he had buried a substantial amount of gold beneath an old outhouse to keep it out of the hands of the government after President Roosevelt took the US off the gold standard. The gold does have a slight odor to it, but what the heck. Gold is gold!

I have more dignity than that. I will not make fun of Canadian golden rectums or the mint workers who harbor them.

I read this and began to think about the guy's "LOGISTICS" to pull this off.

Let's say for fun and simplicity, gold is $1200 /TOZ (HIGH). He "moved" $180,000 (let's say all USD or CDN for simplicity).

    $180,000 = 150 TOZ to "move"

The article states: "His dealings allegedly netted him almost $180K over the course of a few months." Let's give him 6 months...

BUTT, you have to be careful NOT to set off the alarms and raise too much suspicion.

SOooo... can you "tuck" an OUNCE at a time? Nope, that would be a lot for an Airport Scan Arch (or wand) to set off an alarm... so maybe he "tucks" 1/4TOZ...

    150 TOZ = 600 1/4 TOZ "tucks"...

    6 months = 26 weeks x 5 working days = 130 working days to pull stock...

130 days for 150 TOZ is over an ounce a day that they guy was "tucking"... WOW, SECURITY was pretty lax. Or he would have to tuck on 1/4 TOZ and take 4 TRIPS per day out to his car to pull an TOZ a day!

And that is saying a "few" months = 6 months!

    Holy Cow...

Well, I cant comment on the 'capacity' of the 'receptacle' but I imagine several ounces per day might be likely. But the article talks about 'pucks'. Assuming unstruck blanks, but who knows. May have been larger!!! OUCH! The article says a 'few' months so in my mind that means a minimum three. Nevertheless, I always marvel at stupid criminals. He deposited the proceeds into his bank account! I've always said, if I were to be a criminal I would not be caught!

This isn't the first time a Mint employee has snuck stuff out either. If I remember correctly (from my fifth grade tour of the mint) an employee was caught sneaking loonies out in his shoes.

Actually it was/is funny and I like your sense of humor, just probably inappropriate and don't want to see you get in trouble.
