Made my weekly stop to my LCS. Here is my silver fix and a little extra. The Morgans were $25 each and the proof sets were $45 for the lot.
13 proof sets for $45 ? Wow....I have a few of those, I think I have (L-R) #11 (lower bottom Left) and #13 (lower bottom Right). I wonder how much those proof sets cost originally. Most of them < $1.00 in face value coins.
I feel like proof sets in general have had some of the steepest declines in value over the past few years of any US coins.
They have....they just made too many in the 1960's and 1970's and 1980's. What did they sell for, like $5 ?
Here is a good year-by-year guide: https://proofsetguide.com/ The issue prices ranged from $5 each in the beginning of the 70s to $11 by the end of the 80s. Nowadays most sell for $3-$5. I had a few extras from a lot that I bought on eBay and was happy to get $2 per set at the local coin store. And most local stores and dealers are happy to move them along at not much over that (since supply is often high while demand isn't always there).
Nice pickups @beaver96 ! I have the 1982 set in my collection as I found the fact that they used a token to fill the empty spot (which held a Susan B. Anthony Dollar in 1981) interesting. Plus this tends to be one of the least expensive sets (mine cost a bit under $4).
I bought the proof sets mostly to help the dealer. He got them as part of a lot and I needed a couple sets to fill out my year collection and the rest I give out as gifts or favors. Or maybe I'll start breaking them open and fill out some date sets.
