While I did find a little bit of silver and some old jefferson nickels, the only thing I found worth bragging about was this Struck through error. A 1998D Kennedy Half that was struck through a small piece of scrap copper. I'm wondering if I should list this on eBay as a MAJOR MINT ERROR, THE SKY IS FALLING, BUY IT NOW, QUANTITIES ARE LIMITED, etc......... PS. Actually it's going into an airtite and straight into my collection.
awhile back, I was getting thousands of brand new 1998D's. I kept asking the head teller to ask if they could ask about getting the mint sewn bags, but based on their reply, I don't think they ever inquired. At the time, I did find a couple like this with the copper piece still retained. My guess is that the copper was getting scraped off the edge of a previous coin during the striking process and just happened to land between the die and this coin. I also found a couple partial collar broadstrikes in the same 1998D's. I'm guessing that this coin got to me because someone who had been going through rolls for silver was only looking at the edges and cashed this baby back in. Sucks that someone did manage to put fingerprints all over this one.
Nice find. :thumb: I have one that looks similair to that, just a tad smaller. Think it's a 71 though. Phoenix
