Nothing here for those of us into Ancient coins, but I will post anyway: 18/3 1584 Ivan IV "the Terrible", Czar of Russia, died. Ivan was only three when his father died and he was proclaimed the Grand Prince of Moscow. His mother acted as his regent, but she died when he was eight. At the age of sixteen, in 1547, Ivan was crowned Czar of all Russias. During his reign, he instigated religious reform, advanced the arts and expanded the Russian territories. He earned the reputation and nickname "Ivan the Terrible" due to his strict enforcement of his laws and brutal treatment of those he conquered. Ivan died while playing chess, apparently from a stroke. When his remains were examined in the 1960s, high amounts of mercury were discovered, triggering speculations that he might have been poisoned.

21/3 1413 Henry V becomes King of England. After his father Henry IV died on March 20, 1413, Henry succeeded him. His reign was threatened by conspiracies, but none were successful, and the conspirers were suppressed without mercy. Henry had been a brilliant military strategist during the 100 Years War and is credited with the victory at the Battle of Agincourt. After nearly conquering France, the Treaty of Troyes recognized him as the heir of the French throne but died a few months before his successor, Charles VI, on 31 August 1422. Henry V was featured in three of William Shakespears' plays.
