Alright, If yall have read my post about my saloon token, you know that I have no clue whats the value. Well today I started calling all the coin shops within a 40 mile radius. I got ahold of one where a woman (In her late 60's) picked up. I preceeded to tell her my problem. She seemed not to care when all of the sudden she said "Hold on......hey can you come in today?" I said I couldnt (Trans work on my buick) She got real disgruntled and said " Please can you come in? We are really interested in it." - Not at the begining... She said for a third time "Sir we want to buy it" I asked her for a value and she said she cant give me an acurate value w/o seeing it -Thats true and I agree with her 100%. I didnt want to get in to work traffic so I told her "Well, thanks anyway..." She freaked "Sir! uhh Are you sure you cant come in" I told her im sure. She said "Uhhh...umm... Take a picture and email us." I said fine, took the pics sent them and didnt here nothing. That was at 1:30 pm I called back around 5:00 and asked are they still interested and if so why they have not called me. She said they were swamped (Reasonable) and they would call me back in about 15 mins. Not a word since. I did find this out. This token must be rare. I cant find anywhere on the internet. Out of the 6 shops I called 5 of them wanted me to bring it in today, 3 of them were insistant on buying it, and the one that wasnt intrested only bought silver and gold. Is it safe to think that this coin could fetch over $75? From the way that one shop sounded, you'd think I have a 1913 V nick
well since you can't come into CT today either, like the lady said, send us a pic -- this thread is useless without one too.
Why get angry? So what if a dealer or two expressed interest and did not immediately call you back. If it were me I would take it by a coin shop at my convenience.
Hey, it don't eat, so hang on to it and try to find out what the interest is. This might be something that you are very interested in hanging onto once you find out what you have. I think that if they really are interested, you will get another phone call in a few days. If it was a customer who overheard the conversation and was interested, that may be a different story. Good luck with it. gary
You sound like someone that gets angry easily. Cool off a bit, other people have lives and problems too just like you and your car.
One thing you need to remember is the fact that what you have may be a true rarity, that doesn't always equate to high value, especially when it comes to tokens. I somewhat recall having a similar conversation awhile back, regarding your saloon token . It would be helpful if you would refresh my memory with a photo of your token. Thanks.
The union saloon, pratt city KS. Probably somewhere around 1878 . Try starting here.http://www.kshs.org/p/pratt-county-history-bibliography/13501
There it is. Im not quick to anger. My car went out two days ago (Trans) and Im having to down size my collection and my uncles to pay for it. I needed to get the money quick so I could start working on it. I got a call from another coin shop who offered me $140! Just about ten minutes ago the woman from the first shop I called emailed me. She said I think its worth about $10 so I can give you $3......... Its funny how people want to get everything you have w/o paying for anything... Im going to the shop that offered $140 today. Should be enough to get a used trans. It kills me having to do this. But its like "Do I want my car or a token"
Well, That it what collections do, they offer you an opportunity to raise some " Cash " dollars in an emergency . I hope you get the $140.00 . I don't have any idea as to the FMV for this token. Good luck !
In my opinion before you sell it, you need to think like this: One shop says it's worth 10$ and offered you 3$....the other shop offered you 140$....if you figured the second shop is only offering you 30% like the first shop...that token could buy you a new buick. My suggestion is to do more research. You could walk around neighborhoods where you live and earn 150$ raking leaves, but you will be lucky if you are able to find that token again for the 140$ you are giving it up for.
My opinion, get a FMV at a couple coin shops (preferrably written down, back of business card, etc.) and see if you cant pawn it for $150. Use the money, save up for a bit and go get it back later. I don't know if it'd work, but it might be worth a try. Lack of a vehicle might make this difficult, though. I just hate to see people have to let go of finds like that one.
