I'm holding one of these coins and wondered if the names on the coin were actually a person's on the wall in DC. THEY ARE!

And, if I may say so, as it should be. Some sloppy scribbling on this would have been a total lack of respect. Thanks for sharing.

I should have made up names rather than have actual persons. All the dead deserve to be on this kind of commemorative!

I wondered why it was not carved in alphabetical order. This makes sense. It's too bad the design panels get so high. Nice Idea, but for me a longer wall sloping down as this yet all the names in a band (at an angle) as high as the average reach and as low as the knees.

I kind of had the same thought...but then some might have considered that disrespectful. I suppose it's kind of an odd s
I like how it's done in chronological order. I have been able to see the wall in person a couple times with my father who fought in Vietnam. Being in chronological order groups soldiers who served and died together together on the wall. In some ways, it makes it more meaningful. He has friends listed side by side.

I've got more than a few friends listed on that wall...........

Pity they couldn't have had all the names on the commem, but that just ain't reasonable or accomplishable (feasible?). The few names appearing (on the disk) honor all of the others who are not.........One day I'll make the trek to that wall. I've been meaning to do so for quite some time, but in the interim, I've got the coin to hold, honor, and remember those brave souls.

I did boot camp at Fort Polk, Louisiana in 1968. My MOS was 11H! I wonder how many people that I trained with are listed on the wall.

One of the more interesting aspects of this modern commem is that it has had a very atypical price chart history in its 23 years. Not the usual slow fade in value with a bullion floor. It has undergone ups and downs.

The announcement used to come over the loud speaker (many mornings) while I was in High School. Another graduate lost. Too many mornings.

Panel 22W, Row 78, Michael L Hodge. A good friend of mine.

This is a 3 inch diameter disk of the same granite the Wall is made of, with a white decal depicting the design. These were sold in the early 80’s to raise funds to build the Memorial. No money was allocated by the government to build it, unlike other war memorials.

When I was a child, we had the radio (AM, mostly music) playing for much of the day and evening. Every evening (5PM?), there would be a short news broadcast, and at the same time in every broadcast -- maybe five after the hour -- they would report the number of servicemen killed in Vietnam that day. Just another statistic, like the stock market's closing figure.

The war ended shortly before my older brother turned 18.

Yes the names on the coin are real, A few years ago I attended a presentation at either the Central States or ANA show that covered the coin and included the information and service record of each person whose name is visible on the coin. Unfortunately I just recently threw away the hand out from the presentation that contained all the information about them.

Where I live, having visited the main Memorial is no great feat. A cheap Amtrak ride and an Uber, and you're there. The really really cool shrine that every coin guy should visit is a tiny bit to the north of it. Yes, I speak of the headquarters of the Federal Reserve Board (cue choir of angels). :troll:

Then, if you can contain your excitement, visit the Supreme Court, where you can thank the walls for housing the men of wonder who refused to take up the Langbord appeal. It was almost more bliss than I could stand. :troll:

I didn't need to make a special pilgrimage to the Eastern District of PA trial court. I've already given testimony and foremaned a jury there. (Two different occasions.) My testimony was favorably viewed by the trial judge trier of fact, unlike Mr. Burdette's.

Kurt, enviable fellow.........have a nip of Christmas Cheer........We can't always change the inevitable, forthcoming, 'cabbage patch' (code for bull shirt) stuff. You're one of the good guys and a voice of reason. As long as fellows like you reside (and deride) in this country the world will be a better place.........
