    I believe those are actually the fruit/berry/flowerbud(?) of the laurel wreath. Here is an example with them clearly visible. They appear at the wider end of the leaf segments often with a stem accompanying them, drawing them back into the leaf part.

    Reverse: Large SC within laurel wreath of eight leaves, fastened with pellet at top.

    It looks fine to me. Is your example Flavian by chance?

    Like @Justin Lee, I don't see casting pearls, but the fruit om the laurel leaves. Are we missing something?
