Stopped by one of the melt down shops today, and fished these 2 coins out of the $22 raw Morgan tray. Ive had some pretty decent scores at this place (including a 20 cent piece in VG for $10) but they are few and far between....... Enjoy- I sure did Vam-pires feel free to try your hand, i know what the '21 D is , havent even ran the CC under my glass yet.
I don't know of any place around my area that these melters of coins will just let you go in there and browse their stock. it just doesn't happen where I live.
They only melt broken jewelry, silverware, silverplate, and stuff that they cant sell. They USE to melt silver strike $10 casino gaming tokens- with the silver plug & brass ring. Until i advised them not to do so, ''cause i would buy every one they got" until some other hillbilly started beating me to them! Who are you? Mr toe stepping hillbilly? I need to have a chit chat w you, while my 2 goons, are standing behind me, repeating my words and cracking their knuckles
an antique shop 30 minutes from me buys and sells silver coins. so I went in one day and asked what he had, he asked what I was looking for, I asked what he had to which you replied I have a lot I'm not selling right now, because silver is too low. so I asked why he even had it advertised that he was selling when he wasn't. owners like that piss me off. a big hunk of horse pucky if you ask me. I have such disdain in general for coin dealers that I only stick with very few. and speaking of Mount Vernon coins, there's a whole thread about them here on CT, I ran into a neighbor who had the unfortunate experience selling to them today before he talked to me.
I know of atleast one antique shop that has a sign up offering to buy silver/gold. Ive never seen a single coin for sale in this place, and judging by the prices, i wouldnt buy from them. They probably rip lil old ladies off regularly.... I spotted a thrift store tag on an item for $2 once, they were asking $50 for it, i bet it never sold Oh and ive read the Mt Vernon coins threads i believe, if it was me, i would buy fakes from ali baba and sell to that shop. Kids dont try this at home
I have been to their shop they have a display of fake coins that customers took in and tried to sell.
What about the shop over on 198 over by Fort Meade? I found some nice values there....when that area was in my territory . I can't recall the name...they had lower grade slabs in the $40 range and also raw Morgan's and Peace dollars
Nice. I picked up a 78cc from a dealers $20 pile at the ANA Anaheim last summer. Must have snuck in there to wait for me
I just lost everything that I typed and I'm not typing it again. long story short I ask for a 1912 s Liberty nickel in fine condition they tried selling me one in the vg condition. I don't collect Morgan's. some of their gold is decently priced. at this point I mainly sticking to the barber quarters and gold.
I can hook you up with a dealer who has a ton of barber quarters in the old boards . He purchased a large collection of coins and the barbers were part of it. Let me know if you're interested send me a pm @Silverhouse
